The People's AIDS Agenda

"for the Civil Society, in view of the inadequacy of our resources in financial and material terms; and in view of our wealth of human resources and of the dire need for strong and effective Advocacy and campaigns, let us mobilize and use effective that which we have – “ people power” for both advocacy and campaigns”

Ayo Ipinmoye, Executive Secretary, Civil Society for HIV and AIDS in Nigeria.

The Peoples AIDS Agenda is an advocacy toolkit to promote Universal Access in Nigeria. It details civil society's priorities for achieving universal access to prevention, treatment, care and support in Nigeria.

CiSHAN, a coalition of over 3000 organisations, believes the change of administration presents a unique opportunity for civil society to forge a relationship with new leaders at all levels of government. The previous administration showed great commitment towards reversing the spread of HIV and mitigating its impacts on the infected and affected in the country. They urge the new administration to continue this and to build on the achievments made so far.

The Target audience includes:

Executive Government Leaders at National, State and Local Government Levels

– Legislative Leaders at National, State and Local Government Levels

– Leaders of the Judiciary

– Religious Leaders at National and Local Levels

– Traditional Rulers and Leaders

– Community and Opinion Leaders.

How will it be used:

As an advocacy tool and also as a campaign tool.

As an advocacy tool, it is essentially targeting the new political administration in the country. This includes the executive, the legislature and the judiciary at the national state and Local Government Area level.

As a campaign tool it is targeting every member of the society by informing them on issues around Universal Access as well as their expected roles and responsibilities in promoting it.
